The Indonesia-Australia pairing of Janice Tjen / Storm Hunter have kept their Japan Open 2026 doubles title hopes alive, after eliminating Taiwanese duo Ya-Hsin Lee / Fang-Hsien Wu in the Quarter Finals.

After dropping the first set 4-6, Janice and Hunter rallied to take the second and third sets by scores of 6-3 and 10-6 respectively. The Wednesday match, held in Osaka, Japan, ran for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

This victory secures the top-seeded pair a spot in the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Japan Open 2026 tournament.

This result also demonstrated Janice and Hunter's ability to handle pressure during critical stages of the match. Following the first set loss, the pair adjusted their gameplay and kept their composure through the super tie-break to seal the win.

Janice and Hunter were unable to establish consistent control of the match in the opening set. Lee and Wu capitalised on a number of key games to build an advantage, closing out the first set 6-4.

For the second set, Janice and Hunter adjusted their approach, delivering far more solid service games while ramping up offensive pressure on their opponents.

This paid off as they took the second set 6-3, forcing the match to be decided by a third set played under super tie-break rules.

Competition remained tight as both pairs traded points back and forth. Ultimately, Janice and Hunter closed out the super tie-break 10-6 to claim victory.

Match statistics also reflect the Indonesia-Australia pair's edge: they won 53% of total points played, while Lee and Wu recorded a 48% total points win rate.

Janice and Hunter committed 28 unforced errors during the match, a far lower figure than the 43 unforced errors recorded by Lee and Wu.

On serving stats: Janice and Hunter hit 2 aces and committed just 1 double fault. By comparison, Lee and Wu registered 1 ace and 3 double faults.

This win over Lee and Wu continues Janice and Hunter's strong run at the 2026 Japan Open. In their previous fixture, they defeated the Brazil-Spain pairing of Ingrid Martins and Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

As the top seeds in the doubles draw, Janice and Hunter are well placed to advance further at this hard court tournament, Running from 19 to 25 October. The Japan Open is part of the Asian Swing series held at the end of the 2026 professional tennis tour season.

For Janice personally, reaching the doubles semi-finals extends her campaign in Osaka, after she was eliminated from the singles competition earlier. The Indonesian tennis player fell to United States representative Ashlyn Krueger 4-6, 4-6 in the Round of 32.

Next up for Janice and Hunter will be maintaining this winning momentum as they head into the semi-final round.

They will face the winner of the Quarter Final fixture between third seeds Ingrid Neel / Giuliana Olmos and the pairing of Isabelle Haverlag / Lilli Tagger.
