Bogor – Persib Bandung returned home with zero points after falling 0-1 to Madura United in the 6th matchweek of BRI Super League 2026/2027, held at Gelora Madura Ratu Pamelingan Stadium, Pamekasan on Thursday (22/10/2026). Dimitar Mitkov's 89th-minute goal became the decider in a match that saw Persib dominate play, only to end in disappointment for the visiting squad.
This defeat stands as critical evaluation material for Maung Bandung, most notably regarding attacking effectiveness, late-match concentration, and player fitness management amid a congested competition schedule.
These issues were discussed on the ITSMe podcast alongside Football Analyst Erwin Fitriansyah and Sapto Haryo Rajasa. Hosted by Pudila and Gilang Respaty, the discussion took place at Sentul Studio, Bogor.

Persib Dominance Failed To Produce Goals
Statistically, Persib held clear advantages. Igor Tolic's side recorded 56% ball possession, launched 21 total shots and put 6 attempts on target. Madura United only registered 12 total shots, with 4 of those directed on goal.
Even so, Persib's advantage was not enough to find the net. Angga Saputro's performance in Madura United's goal was a major factor that shut down Persib's efforts. The home Goalkeeper denied Sandy Walsh's 71st minute header, followed by Uilliam Barros' low driven shot in the 86th minute.
Disaster arrived at the 89th minute. After a loose ball situation developed inside the penalty box, Dimitar Mitkov converted the chance into Madura United's winning goal. A defensive lapse from Persib at this critical moment rendered their full-match dominance worthless, without securing even a single point.
This result confirms that ball possession and shot volume alone are useless unless paired with clinical finishing and unbroken concentration right until the final whistle.
Congested Fixtures Become A Serious Concern
During the ITSMe podcast discussion, the overcrowded match calendar was highlighted as a high-priority issue. Persib is forced to split physical energy and focus across the Super League, AFC Champions League Two (ACL Two), and the ASEAN Club Championship (Shopee Cup).
Tight match turnarounds, intercity and cross-border Travel, plus limited recovery time all carry risk of degrading player performance. This situation also creates difficult rotation dilemmas for Igor Tolic: resting core players preserves fitness, but excessive lineup changes risk breaking the team's playing balance.
For this reason, Persib must carefully manage playing minutes, optimise recovery programmes, and build lineups based on both physical condition and tactical needs. The squad can also no longer rely on pulling off late comeback victories when falling behind.
Success in Asian continental competitions remains an important goal for Persib and for Indonesian Football overall. However this ambition must be balanced with proper squad management, to avoid dragging down domestic league performances.
Garudayaksa Is The Next Test
Persib has very little time to dwell on the defeat. Maung Bandung are scheduled to face Garudayaksa FC for Super League matchweek 7 on Sunday (25/10/2026), 19.00 WIB at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor Regency.
Ahead of this match, Persib have collected 10 points from six fixtures. A win is critical to stay in the top table race, as well as to restore team confidence after dropping points in Pamekasan.
Garudayaksa however cannot be underestimated. The home side will also be fighting to bounce back after suffering a heavy 0-5 defeat to Bali United in their last match, meaning both squads will enter this fixture with strong motivation to claim a positive result.
Persib will need to fix their finishing, maintain defensive organisation, and avoid basic mistakes in dangerous areas. Measured squad rotation must also be implemented to preserve playing standard while still allowing necessary player recovery.
The challenges do not end at Pakansari. After facing Garudayaksa, Maung Bandung will host Melbourne Victory for an ACL Two fixture on Wednesday (28/10/2026). This extremely short gap between matches makes fitness management more decisive than ever.
The defeat to Madura United should act as both a warning and valuable evaluation material. Persib still has every opportunity to bounce back, but this will require tangible response on the pitch. The match against Garudayaksa will be the first proper test to prove Maung Bandung can maintain consistency, under the pressure of a packed schedule and the demands of competing across multiple tournaments.
