Brighton Put On A Blistering Performance, Arsenal Suffer Their First Defeat Of The Season.

Arsenal had to swallow a bitter defeat after falling 0-3 to Brighton and Hove Albion in an English Premier League fixture at the Amex Stadium, Saturday 19 September 2026.
The three goals conceded by David Raya were scored respectively by Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Chema Andres. This result also brought an end to Arsenal's unbeaten run at the start of the season.
Despite dropping three points, Arsenal remains in second place in the provisional standings, having collected 12 points from five matches.

Meanwhile, this victory lifted Brighton up to third position. Fabian Hurzeler's side now hold 10 points, only two points adrift of Arsenal.
Brighton applied heavy pressure right from kick-off. In the 6th minute, Charalampos Kostoulas picked up a through ball just inside the final third to create a goalscoring chance, but his finish was comfortably saved by David Raya.
Arsenal attempted to respond in the 18th minute. Bruno Guimaraes struck a first-time shot from outside the penalty area, but the ball drifted narrowly wide of Brighton's right goalpost.
Brighton's sustained pressure finally paid off in the 31st minute. Pascal Gross found space to shoot from the edge of the penalty box. His effort struck the inside of the post before bouncing into the bottom right corner of Arsenal's goal.
Approaching the 39th minute, Brighton created another clear chance through Yasin Ayari, though Ayari's strike failed to hit the target.
Brighton extended their lead just before half time. Kostoulas produced an impressive solo run inside Arsenal's defensive area before unleashing a powerful driven finish into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Arsenal emerged for the second half with the clear objective of chasing the deficit. However, it was Brighton who once again found the opening to extend their advantage.
In the 57th minute, Chema Andres won an aerial duel inside the penalty box from a corner delivery. His header directed the ball perfectly into the bottom right corner, putting Brighton 3-0 ahead.
The Gunners pushed hard for a consolation goal. Riccardo Calafiori had a headed opportunity in the 72nd minute, but the effort drifted wide of the target.
Six minutes later, Kai Havertz came close to reducing the deficit. Havertz received possession just inside the penalty area and fired a driven shot towards the left post, only for Brighton's goalkeeper to react sharply and make the save.
Brighton almost added a fourth goal in the 90th minute. Matt O'Riley broke into the penalty box and hit a low drive towards the right post.
David Raya produced another excellent reaction save, meaning the 3-0 scoreline remained until the final whistle blew.
This result is Arsenal's first Premier League defeat this season, while Brighton have closed the gap on The Gunners at the top end of the league table.
