Indonesian rider Veda Ega Pratama has secured an early advantage at the 2026 Moto3 Malaysia round. Veda finished inside the top three during Practice at Sepang International Circuit on Friday 30 October, earning an automatic direct pass to Qualifying 2 (Q2).

Veda recorded a lap time of 2 minutes 11.519 seconds to take third position. This mark was only 0.092 seconds off session leader David Almansa, who posted 2 minutes 11.427 seconds. Rico Salmela occupied second place with a time of 2 minutes 11.496 seconds.

The battle for the top three positions was extremely tight, with Veda just 0.023 seconds behind Salmela. This result confirms the Honda Team Asia rider has the raw pace to compete with the front runners at Sepang.

By finishing inside the top 14 overall in Practice, Veda will bypass the Q1 knockout round entirely. He will advance straight to Q2 alongside all other riders who secured automatic qualification.

This structure works in Veda's favour, as he can now focus all preparation specifically on this single decisive session that will set the full starting grid order.

Veda also demonstrated consistent form on the opening day. He ended FP1 in fourth place before improving to third in the combined Practice Standings, even finishing ahead of home crowd favourite Hakim Danish who placed fourth.

"I am very happy with how this Weekend has started. The bike felt really good right from the very first lap," Veda stated in an official Honda Team Asia press release.

Nevertheless, challenges still remain. During FP2 on Saturday 31 October, Veda finished in eighth position. This result shows there is still room to refine the motorcycle's performance before qualifying commences.

One key priority for Veda is tyre grip. This is a critical factor at Sepang Circuit, whose layout demands stable bike handling both through high-speed corners and while carrying speed down the long straights.

Veda had previously noted that track grip levels were not yet fully optimal. He is adapting to these conditions while working alongside his team to dial in the best possible motorcycle setup.

The risk of Rain on Saturday also presents an additional variable, as changing weather will alter track surface conditions and force all riders to adjust their strategy.

Qualifying and Race Schedule for Moto3 Malaysia

Veda will have the opportunity to fight for a front row starting position during Saturday's qualifying sessions. Per the official 2026 Moto3 Malaysia timetable, Q1 will run 11:45-12:00 WIB, followed by Q2 from 12:10-12:25 WIB.

Veda will enter directly into Q2 without needing to contest the opening qualifying round. He will need to set his fastest possible lap time here to lock in a competitive grid spot. The tiny time gaps recorded during Practice indicate the fight for front row positions remains wide open.

The main 2026 Moto3 Malaysia Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday 1 November, starting at 11:00 WIB. Riders will complete 15 full racing laps around Sepang International Circuit.

For Veda, this strong Practice result is valuable momentum as he looks to continue his positive form across the Asian championship rounds. Following an 11th place finish in Japan and 6th place at Mandalika, he is well placed to show further progress here in Malaysia.

Veda arrives at Sepang with high confidence, after securing pole position in qualifying for Moto3 Australia. That race at Phillip Island was ultimately cancelled due to severe bad weather.

Sepang now presents the next chance for Veda to turn his strong practice pace into a full race result.

His Q2 ticket is already secured. The next challenge will be to execute a perfect qualifying run, so that Veda can start the grand prix from a favourable position and give himself the best opportunity to score important championship points in Malaysia.
