The 2026 Australian Grand Prix at the Phillip Island Circuit, Victoria concluded with no races held, as severe weather forced organisers to cancel all competition classes on Sunday (25/10/2026). The Moto3 and Moto2 races were called off first, before the premier MotoGP class followed after suffering multiple repeated delays.
In its official announcement on Sunday 25 October 2026, MotoGP stated: “Due to limited visibility affecting the operation of the medical helicopter at the Red Bull Grand Prix of Australia, the MotoGP Grand Prix race has been cancelled.”
This statement confirmed the premier class race was officially scrapped as restricted visibility disrupted safe medical helicopter operations.

From Minibike to Moto3, Veda Ega Pratama Holds Onto His Hope of Making It to MotoGP.
MotoGP also announced riders would complete a farewell parade lap behind the safety car, then stop on the main straight to greet spectators. The pit lane is scheduled to open at 15:45 local time, or 11:45 WIB. This activity is not a replacement race and will award zero championship points.
The main race cancellation was announced at approximately 15:40 local time. Prior to this, the event had already been delayed by around two hours from its original schedule as weather conditions failed to improve.
Veda Ega Loses Historic Opportunity
The Moto3 cancellation delivered a particular blow for Indonesian rider Veda Ega Pratama. The Honda Team Asia rider had secured pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying sessions.
This achievement made history: Veda became the first ever Indonesian rider to claim the number one starting grid position at an FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix event.
Veda had been set to launch the race from first position. The cancellation ruling however stripped him of the chance to fight for victory at the Australian round.
Fellow Indonesian rider Mario Aji was also unable to compete in the Moto2 class. The Idemitsu Honda Team Asia rider had been scheduled to start the race from 12th position.
Medical Helicopter Availability Was The Final Decision Factor
Heavy rain and dense fog had covered Phillip Island from early Sunday morning. These conditions reduced visibility to levels that rendered safe medical helicopter deployment impossible.
In its official Sunday statement, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation confirmed safety remained the non-negotiable priority, and that racing could not proceed without fully operational emergency air support.
Organisers also confirmed full refunds will be processed for Sunday single-day ticket holders, while multi-day ticket holders will qualify for partial reimbursements according to official terms.
MotoGP had briefly retained the option to run the main race at 16:30 local time / 12:30 WIB. However after repeated delays, the final ruling announced at 15:40 local time was full cancellation, with no rescheduling to the following day.
Phillip Island MotoGP Era Ends Without A Final Race
This cancellation closed MotoGP's tenure at Phillip Island without a farewell race. The iconic coastal circuit has been a core fixture on the world championship calendar for decades.
From 2027, the Australian Grand Prix is scheduled to relocate to the Adelaide street circuit. This makes the 2026 edition the final MotoGP event hosted at Phillip Island, even though its closing race was abandoned due to bad weather.
Title Battle Carries Over Unchanged To Malaysia
With the Australian GP cancelled, all focus now shifts to the next round: the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang Circuit, running 30 October to 1 November 2026.
Marc Marquez of Ducati Lenovo leads the provisional Standings on 365 points, holding a 10 point advantage over Aprilia Racing rider Jorge Martin on 355 points. Martin had already been ruled out of Phillip Island after sustaining injury in a crash during the Saturday 24 October sprint race.
As no main race was completed in Australia, zero championship points were awarded for this round. The world title battle will therefore resume unchanged in Malaysia, while Veda Ega and Mario Aji will now redirect their focus to the upcoming round after their missed opportunity at Phillip Island.
