Andrea Kimi Antonelli has secured the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship title following an impressive season campaign with Mercedes. Claiming 9 wins from 19 total races was one of the critical factors that carried the Italian driver to the top of the championship Standings.
Antonelli officially sealed the title after crossing the line in third position at the Mexican Grand Prix, held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit on Sunday 1 November 2026 local time.
This result was sufficient to confirm his maiden world championship crown, even with four full race rounds still remaining on the 2026 calendar. Antonelli had built an unassailable points lead that no rival could overcome for the drivers' title.

According to official Formula 1 statistics, Antonelli had accumulated 380 championship points by the conclusion of the Mexican Grand Prix. He opened a substantial gap over all competitors after delivering consistent race performances throughout the season.
Nine Victories Formed The Foundation Of Antonelli's Title Run
Antonelli's path to the world championship was not built on just one or two standout race results. The Mercedes driver recorded nine total victories, a tally no other driver had matched by the time of the Mexican Grand Prix.
Prior to locking in the title, Antonelli also claimed a decisive win at the United States Grand Prix held at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin on 25 October 2026.
This United States victory strengthened his grip on the title race. Antonelli arrived at the Mexican Grand Prix holding a 123-point advantage over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell based on pre-race standings.
This points gap meant Antonelli only needed to finish inside the top nine positions to secure the championship, regardless of how his rivals performed.
Despite having the luxury of sealing the title with a conservative safe result, Antonelli instead finished the Mexican race on the podium in third place. He crossed the line behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton competing for Ferrari.
This result demonstrated Antonelli's ability to manage pressure during an incident-packed race. The Mexican Grand Prix was temporarily red-flagged following Valtteri Bottas' crash, and later ran under Safety Car conditions after an incident involving Arvid Lindblad.
Antonelli's Consistency Carries Mercedes To Season Success
While nine wins formed the headline of Antonelli's season, his consistent record of finishing at the front of the field also made a massive contribution to his final points total.
Official Formula 1 records show Antonelli stood on the podium 16 times across the first 19 Grand Prix rounds up to the Mexico race. This statistic confirms he was not only capable of winning races, but reliably delivered strong points-scoring results at almost every event.
This performance also underlines Mercedes' successful work developing their young driver. Throughout the season, Antonelli successfully capitalised on every available opportunity to deliver competitive race results.
This achievement carries special historical weight for Italy. Antonelli becomes the first Italian driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
With this maiden title, Antonelli joins the ranks of the sport's youngest ever world champions, and has set a new all-time record as the youngest Formula 1 world Champion in history.
This crown caps a landmark 2026 campaign for Antonelli. Nine race wins, 16 podium finishes and a final haul of 380 championship points make up the historic record of his title-winning season with Mercedes.
