Como 1907's 9-1 victory over Lens was far more than just an ordinary goal fest. This Match Result from the fourth matchday of the 2026/2027 Champions League league phase has earned the Italian club a place in European Competition history books.

Como has matched the record for the largest winning margin in Champions League history. Cesc Fabregas' side secured an eight-goal victory, equalling the feats previously achieved by Liverpool and Real Madrid who both recorded 8-0 wins.

Liverpool registered their big scoreline win against Besiktas back in 2007, while Real Madrid posted the same result when they faced Malmo in 2015.

However, Como holds an additional distinction that makes this win over Lens even more remarkable. Fabregas' squad becomes the first team since 1971 to score nine goals in an away fixture in either the European Cup or Champions League competition.

Como also becomes only the second team after Bayern Munich to score nine goals in a single Champions League match. Bayern first accomplished this feat with a 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb during the 2024/2025 season.

At the Bollaert-Delelis Stadium, Como asserted their dominance right from the start of the match. Anastasios Douvikas opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before adding his second goal in the 32nd minute.

Nico Paz extended the lead to 3-0 before the end of the first half. After the break, Como proved unstoppable as Lucas da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf found the net, followed by Douvikas who completed his hat-trick.

Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli subsequently added their names to the scoresheet. Lens could only pull one goal back through Ruben Aguilar in the 65th minute.

For Lens, this defeat against Como goes down as one of the worst nights in their European competition history. This 1-9 result is the heaviest defeat the French club has ever suffered in Champions League history.

Lens also becomes the first club from Europe's top five leagues to concede nine goals in a home match across all European club competitions. This statistic underlines just how vast the performance gap was between both sides throughout the entire match.

Conversely, this victory further cements Como's status as one of the most prolific teams during their debut Champions League season.

After four matches played, they have already scored 19 goals, placing them second in the official UEFA rankings for team attacking productivity.

Como currently sits in 4th position in the league phase Standings with nine points. They still have four remaining matches to hold their place inside the top eight zone, which grants direct qualification to the Round of 16.

This win over Lens sends a powerful message to all of Como's rivals. The club making their first ever Champions League appearance has already proven they can compete at the highest level, while simultaneously setting new records on the biggest stage of European Football.
