Asian Games 2026: Indonesia's Men's Badminton Team Will Challenge Thailand in the Semifinals.

Indonesia's men's badminton team eliminated Malaysia in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Asian Games. This victory secured Indonesia's progress to the semi-finals, where they will face Thailand on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.

The semi-final spot was sealed by Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah. Indonesia's men's singles player competed in the final tie of the round, defeating Eogene Eon Ewe in straight games 21-11, 21-11 in Ichinomiya, Japan on Tuesday evening.

Ubaidillah only required 38 minutes to finish the match. This result confirmed Indonesia's overall win over Malaysia and formalised their semi-final qualification.

Despite the convincing final score, Ubed did not have an entirely smooth run on court. He briefly lost momentum in the first game and found himself pulled into Eogene's preferred match rhythm.

Ubed stated that prior competitive experience was the key factor that allowed him to escape the early pressure during the opening game.

"I was caught off guard at the start of the first set, I couldn't adapt to his tempo quickly enough. I fell behind 0-4 very early on, but thank God I managed to turn the situation around. Of course I am grateful today, I secured the win without picking up any injuries. I had already planned out my game approach before stepping on court," stated Ubaidillah.

After the 0-4 deficit, Ubed gradually regained control of the match. He reversed the momentum to close the first game 21-11, before recording the exact same score to take the second game.

This victory concluded the Indonesian men's team quarter-final campaign. With Malaysia eliminated, Thailand will be Indonesia's next opponent in the semi-final round.

There was also positive news from the women's division. Indonesia's women's badminton team had already confirmed their semi-final place earlier, after defeating Chinese Taipei by a score of 3-1.

As a result, Indonesia has secured two semi-final berths for badminton at the 2026 Asian Games. The women's team is scheduled to face China in their semi-final match.
