The collapse of LIV Golf has left Bryson DeChambeau at a career crossroads. As the Saudi-backed competition prepares to cease operations, the two-time US Open champion has been presented with a path to return to top-tier global golf via the World Golf circuit through the DP World Tour for the 2027 season.
According to reports from The Telegraph, the DP World Tour has informed DeChambeau's team that he is eligible for full playing privileges if he applies for membership ahead of the upcoming season. This offer presents a potential lifeline for DeChambeau amid widespread uncertainty over the futures of all former LIV Golf players.
This opportunity however comes with an approaching deadline. DeChambeau must finalise his career plans amid a massive upheaval across professional golf, after LIV Golf's prospective investor BC Partners pulled out of a proposed $300 million USD investment to launch a revamped competition known as LIV 2.0.

LIV Golf is at risk of disbanding, as investors pull out and there is insufficient player support for the league to proceed with holding the 2027 season.
DeChambeau is yet to make an official announcement regarding his decision. Regardless, the DP World Tour has put forward a concrete alternative that will allow him to compete regularly on the international circuit, rather than relying solely on tournament wildcard invitations.
Category 1 Status Clears DeChambeau's Path
DeChambeau's eligibility for full playing rights stems from his status as a major championship winner. He qualifies for DP World Tour Category 1 membership courtesy of his victory at the 2024 US Open.
This membership category is reserved for major tournament champions and Race to Dubai winners within a specified eligibility window. Under this pathway, DeChambeau will not be required to progress through qualifying rounds, as would be the case for players without official membership status.
The Telegraph reports that DeChambeau must submit his membership application no later than 14 November 2026.
However separate reporting from The Guardian lists the application deadline as 16 November 2026. This conflicting information means the official final cutoff date remains unconfirmed, pending formal clarification from the DP World Tour.
Alongside DeChambeau, 2022 Open Championship winner Cameron Smith also meets the requirements for Category 1 membership. Jon Rahm has already publicly announced his intention to compete full time on the DP World Tour in 2027.
Rahm, Hatton And Garcia Have Already Committed
The return of multiple star players is one immediate consequence of LIV Golf's collapse. Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton have already departed the defunct league, while Sergio Garcia has also confirmed plans to rejoin the DP World Tour.
Rahm has specifically named the DP World Tour as his primary competition circuit for the 2027 season. With no clear path back to the PGA Tour currently available for the Spanish golfer, the European circuit represents the most realistic option to maintain competitive continuity for his career.
The decisions made by Rahm and Hatton also relate to updated DP World Tour regulations. Former LIV players were previously forced to choose between signing on to the proposed LIV 2.0 project or retaining their European tour membership. As LIV's future became increasingly unviable, this policy prompted a wave of departures from the Saudi-backed league.
Sergio Garcia has formally confirmed his intention to return to the DP World Tour, noting that the circuit holds a special place in his professional career. Garcia resigned his tour membership in 2022 to join LIV Golf, but retains eligibility to reapply for full member status.
PGA Tour Remains Closed Off For Now
While the DP World Tour has extended an open invitation, DeChambeau's route back to the PGA Tour remains unclear. In January 2026, the PGA Tour launched its one-off Returning Members Program, a special pathway available only to select former members who met specific performance criteria.
Brooks Koepka was the only player to accept an offer under this program. DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith were all eligible for the scheme, but all three declined the opportunity.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp later confirmed that this program was a one-time arrangement, and will not be repeated as a permanent re-entry pathway for all former LIV Golf players.
Under the terms of the program, Koepka is required to make a $5 million USD charitable donation, forfeit all PGA Tour equity distribution rights for a period of five years, and accept restrictions on entry to certain premier tournaments and bonus schemes.
This situation makes the DP World Tour the only realistic short term option for DeChambeau. All former LIV players will still be required to satisfy relevant tour rules and serve any applicable suspension periods before they will be permitted to compete on the PGA Tour.
LIV Golf Proceeds With Full Liquidation
The uncertainty hanging over DeChambeau's career is directly tied to the final collapse of the LIV Golf project. On 5 November 2026, league officials formally announced plans to cease all operations and commence liquidation proceedings, after all attempts to secure new funding failed.
Prior to this, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) had already withdrawn all financial support for future seasons. BC Partners subsequently emerged as a potential backer, with a $300 million USD proposal to launch LIV 2.0 under a new player-owned operating model.
This proposed deal ultimately fell apart. LIV Golf was unable to secure commitments from a sufficient number of players to run a full tournament calendar, making the planned restructuring unworkable.
During bankruptcy court proceedings in New Jersey, legal representatives for LIV Golf confirmed that the organisation had abandoned all plans for LIV 2.0, and would now proceed with an orderly wind down of all Business operations.
With LIV Golf now defunct, all players contracted to the league are now forced to decide their next career steps. For Bryson DeChambeau, the DP World Tour offer represents a critical opportunity to retain his position as one of the top ranked golfers in the world.
