Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez has once again proven he has not lost his touch as one of MotoGP's finest competitors. After enduring a prolonged difficult period caused by long-term Injury, the Spanish rider now stands on the brink of claiming his eighth premier class world championship title.

Marquez's climb to the top of the 2026 MotoGP Standings was no overnight achievement. He had to battle through multiple challenging seasons before finally rediscovering his peak performance.

The right arm injury he sustained in 2020 became the turning point of his career. He underwent a series of surgical procedures and was forced to miss dozens of races, with his future in MotoGP once widely questioned.

Yet Marquez refused to surrender. After ending his long-standing partnership with Honda, he began a fresh career chapter with Gresini Racing for the 2024 season.

The decision to leave Honda unlocked an entirely new phase for his career. Marquez returned to Grand Prix victory at Aragon, ending a 1043-day wait since his last premier class win.

He closed the 2024 season in 3rd place overall with three race victories. This result served as clear confirmation that Marquez was regaining both his raw speed and competitive confidence.

Ducati Returns Marquez To The Summit

For 2025, Marquez received the call up to race for the factory Ducati Lenovo works team. This transfer immediately triggered a major shift in his career trajectory.

Marquez delivered dominant performances across the entire season. He collected 11 Grand Prix victories, and secured his seventh MotoGP world championship title after finishing second at the Japanese Grand Prix held at Motegi.

This title ended a six year wait since he last lifted the championship trophy back in 2019. With this achievement he also equalled Valentino Rossi's record of seven premier class world titles.

Unfortunately the 2025 campaign did not run entirely without setbacks. Marquez suffered an injury following a collision with Marco Bezzecchi at the Indonesian Grand Prix, forcing him to end his season early to undergo full recovery.

Even so, successfully winning the championship with Ducati confirmed he had re-established himself as a leading title contender once again.

Seven Victories In The 2026 Season

Marquez carried this formidable form into the 2026 championship. As of the Malaysian Grand Prix on 1 November, he has recorded seven race wins and accumulated 399 championship points.

His victory at Sepang marked a special milestone: it was Marquez's 80th premier class career win. He now holds a 44 point lead over Jorge Martin, and a 67 point advantage over Marco Bezzecchi.

Official MotoGP statistics show Marquez now holds 80 premier class victories, with 106 total Grand Prix wins across all competition categories. He also has nine total world championship titles across three different classes: MotoGP, Moto2, and the 125cc category.

These numbers tell the story of a rider who once faced career-threatening hardship, only to fight his way back to the very top of the sport.

Throughout the 2026 MotoGP season, Marquez has been one of the most consistent riders on the grid. Seven wins from 16 completed races gives him an extremely strong foundation to defend his world title.

Chasing The Eighth MotoGP World Championship

Should he seal the 2026 title, Marquez will hold eight premier class world championships. This would move him past Valentino Rossi's seven titles, and equal Giacomo Agostini's all-time record for the most premier class world championships in history.

Marquez only requires one more championship to match that legendary record. His first opportunity to wrap up the title will come at the Qatar Grand Prix, hosted at the Lusail International Circuit on 6-8 November.

That said, he cannot afford to drop his consistency. Both Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi still hold a mathematical chance of closing the gap, despite their significant points deficit.

For Marquez, this eighth title is far more than just another trophy. This achievement will stand as the ultimate confirmation of his career comeback, after surviving through crippling injuries, repeated surgeries, team upheaval and years of dark adversity.
